On one hand, we were promised that the old generalized balance would be recovered whilst also removing those unnecessary individualized characteristics (no more monster triple clones, no more Rank-exclusive moves which transformed a monster’s role, etc.) and paywalls. Good news? It seemed like a fifty-fifty situation. Then Social Point announced the arrival of a new rarity: the Mythics. In one turn you could revive a partner, give yourself an attack boost, apply a random negative debuff to all enemies, heal yourself, curse the enemies, crash the game, summon Hayman and then it was the enemy's turn, which also had a stupid successive amount of moves. I remember it reached a point where watching competitive gameplay of this was mind-blowing (not in the good way). Not only was each wave of them destroying little by little the old Legendaries, but they were also overcomplicating the game. Was this necessary? Why restrict the meta to heavy spenders? They also had weird characteristics such as some having three elemental versions or completely changing roles when ranking up. It was more like these were designed with the idea of being the top of the chain rather than creatures). These monsters greatly surpassed every other with their skills, stats and what not (their designs were lacking though. However, a new wave of Legendary types of monsters arrived (not VIPs) which were locked behind a paywall: Nemesis, Forsakens and others. Very rarely could a single monster rip apart whole teams single-handedly. Of course, Worker Hulk, Lagerchaun, Hayman and most Breedables were as useful as the puppets used when showcasing new monster's special attack, but most others were at the same level. What I found amazing about old Monster Legends was the variety of Legendary monsters which were all more or less balanced. Social Point's way of balancing the game: recycling I quit when the Cosmic Era ended, and I'm glad I did. I remember I started playing as a kid when the fire island was a thing (remember that event where you could get Ao Loong?), and kept playing irregularly until the Mythics arrived, where I took it somewhat seriously. This sort of essay will essentially touch all aspects which are weak (in my opinion) about Monster Legends and why, as a result, ended up on me quitting despite how much nostalgia I have for the game.
